Roseview Stud

A small stud breeding Welsh Section B ponies, including Palomino's, using the best old bloodlines.
Our ponies are bred for temperament, movement and good limbs.

Pride of place in the stud goes to

HORSEGATE PIPIT
HORSEGATE PIPIT
Sire: Pendock Peregrine  Dam: Twyford Arcadia

Pipit at home, November 2009, rising 24yo.

Although the stud had been established for a number of years it was with the purchase of Horsegate Pipit that our fortunes changed. Since arriving in 1995 she has been awarded many Supreme Championships and has won at Royal Cornwall several times as well as at the Three Counties show. In 2000 she was Supreme Champion at the Native Pony Association (medal show).  Pipit retired from the show ring in 2002. Unfortunately she only bred us two foals, Roseview Showgirl (by Barkway Bolaero) and Roseview Masterpiece, by Eastleigh Amadeus (Mollegaards Spartacus / Knighton Lucy Locket) who we gelded in 2000 and then qualified for HOYS M&M Lead Rein six weeks later.

Seaholm Dusk was acquired in the same year as Pipit.  Dusk was semi-retired in 2003 after many very successful seasons under saddle, including wins at national level.  Dusky had Cushings disease and was rather hairy at times but was still the adorable pony we fell in love with all those years ago.  So much so that, although she was sold in 1997 when she would not breed, she was repurchased a few years later for some young riders to compete on. She played her part in setting them on the winning trail and was 3rd in her only HOYS qualifier at the age of 17.  Her illness became too much for her in March 2007 and she was sadly put to sleep at home.

The stud was virtually disbanded in 2004, due to personal reasons, and most of the ponies were sold to new homes.  However, it was restarted in 2006, when I was lucky enough to buy back both Roseview Flashdance (last daughter of Knighton Lucy Locket) and Roseview Bunny Girl, only daughter of Eastleigh Amadeus.

New ponies were acquired for the stud in 2007 and these incorporate both new and old bloodlines for us. The first to arrive was the grey mare Millcroft Siesta (Millcroft Royal Lustre x Millcroft Simone) who then had a beautiful colt foal by Soudley Taliesin.  Roseview Raindance has since been sold as a stud stallion with his first foals due in 2010.

We were very fortunate to have been able to acquire Thistledown Pretty Posh, a 3 year old palomino filly from her breeder, Sandy Anderson.  She was a pony he had retained to show himself, being by Eyarth Troy out of Paddock Plush.  She was put in foal to the Royal Welsh champion, Paddock Sahara for 2008, producing a beautiful grey colt, Roseview Panache, who has since been sold to France as a stallion.  Also bought in is the Palomino mare, Kerrells Razzetta, (Rudgate Royal Surprise x Sherwell Roxanne) and Hollybant Queen Isabella.

LATEST NEWS FROM THE STUD

MARCH

Razzle has now recovered from her illness and is now going out each day so the time has come to make a decision about her future.

Posh is due to foal in mid April to Pittybeck Prince Chaming so will return home fairly soon.

A new family, the Marsdens, have purchased the property where we keep the ponies over the winter and there are 3 children. The girls have become very attached to Posh and Pipit who are grazing there at the moment and it looks as though Pipit will have to remain there during the summer for them to play with and look after. The ponies are getting groomed each day and are thoroughly enjoying the attention, showing what lovely natures they both have. The girls are catching the ponies and practising leading them around with the intention of perhaps doing some Young Handler events in the season.

JANUARY 2010

All is fairly quiet here at the moment.

Razzetta is a bit under the weather following some problems caused by the recent snow/ice that we all experienced. Fingers crossed that she recovers soon.

Pipit and Pretty Posh are still turned away on their winter grazing, both are doing really well. Pipit, now 24yo, is feeling really fit and well, so well in fact that she has started jumping clean over the electric fence!!

JUDGES ASSESSMENTS

It's the time of year again when the judges assessments take place and I must be a sucker for punishment. This year I went to Catherston Stud for the NPS Judges Conference and Assessment weekend. Having done the M&M panel last time, I took the assessment for both the RPB and HPB panels and was accepted on to both as a probationer judge.

A couple of weekends later I headed off to Hartpury to try for the WPCS Welsh A panel and was delighted to be accepted onto that panel as well.

PONIES GONE TO NEW HOMES

Royalpark Peters Dream and Hollybant Queen Isabella headed off to their new homes up north. Peter (of pit pony fame) has been bought by Tina Farrow in Lancs for her niece and we looked forward to following their progress.

Bella has gone on loan for a few years so that we can enjoy her under saddle. Life is such a coincidence, as the little girl she has gone to is also called Isabella.

HOYS 2009

Congratulations to Zoe Cutmore and Eddie at their first HOYS together, a fabulous 8th. Photo added to Riding Pony Progeny page.

ROSEVIEW LIMITED EDITION

Eddie and Zoe have continued their winning streak over the last few weeks. A huge WELL DONE to both of them.

At The Royal London Eddie won the Home Produced Mixed Height Show Pony and then won the Open Show Pony not exceeding 148cms and went on to win the Show Pony Championship. Then at the British Elite Eddie and Zoe won the Show Pony Championship, the second year in a row for Eddie.

ROSEVIEW BUNNY GIRL

Bunny Girl has settled into her new home and the children are now getting to grips with her. Elliot was recently 1st in his First Ridden class  and then went Reserve Supreme

BURESIDE AUTUMN MIST

I thought I would share the following photo with you of Jessie (centre), taking Supreme Ridden Pony with Amy Harris, who bought her from us. They have hit it off so well this season, yet another Supreme and sash. On the left is her sister, Emily with her Waxwing Section C, who was Reserve Supreme In Hand.

AUGUST 2009

THE GOLDEN GIRLS

The golden girls finished the season on a high. At the SWAWPCS Late Medal Show Thistledown Pretty Posh won the 4yo and over class and took the qualifier for the SW Champion of the Year finals. A couple of days later both Posh and Bella won their respective classes and Posh went on to take the in hand championship, along with a qualification to the NPA Champion of Champions final. They are now all turned away for the winter.

BSPS Championships

I understand that Roseview Limited Edition was Disneyworld Show Pony Champion (2nd year running). Congratulations, Zoe and Eddie. I wish I had been there to see it.

I was lucky enough to attend the Equifest show this month and got to meet up with Roseview Limited Edition and his new family. I am so delighted that, once again, Eddie has fallen on his feet with such a super, family home. They also have a younger rider to follow on from Zoe, so hopefully he will be settled there for many years to come. He had a good show and I saw him take Reserve Champion slot in the Home Produced section.

Also this month I judged some of the Junior M&M classes at the NPS Summer Championship show and got to see some really super ponies at close quarters. It was apparent from the First Ridden class that there are lots of good young jockeys coming along.

I've been into both West and Mid Wales to judge Welsh B medal classes and have enjoyed some great hospitality.

LOOK WHAT WE FOUND (AGAIN)

We thought we'd neutered all the feral cats in the area but we were wrong!! Look what we've just found

JULY 2009

We took the 'golden girls' as they are becoming known to NPS Devon which is another welsh medal show. Bella was 2nd to the eventual champion, Razzetta won the barren mare class, with Posh, ever the bridesmaid, 2nd to her.

JUNE 2009

We took the girls to two medal shows over the last weekend in June. At the Native Pony Association Cornwall show Bella and Razzetta both won their classes, with Posh in 3rd to Razzetta. Razzetta then went Champion B, to get her first medal and followed this up by winning the Medium Breeds championship as well.  Then at the SWAWPCS show the following day Razzetta was 1st and Posh was 2nd to her. Razzetta was then called forward in the final 3 for the championship and went on to be Champion Barren Mare of the show.

Pretty Posh has been scanned in foal to the HOYS and Olympia winning Section B, Pittybeck Prince Charming.

ONE LUCKY PONY

Peters Dream, our part bred gelding had a lucky escape this week after falling into a hole in the ground that opened up underneath him whilst he grazed. We think it must have been old mine workings of some sort. Photos of the event are on the Current Stock page. Thankfully Peter escaped virtually unharmed but is now known as Peter Rabbit!!

Following his rescue we took him to the area NPS show on 31st May. What a star he proved to be. He won the RPB 2/3yo class and was Reserve Champion RPB, qualifying for NPS X1 Supreme In Hand Show Pony finals at NPS Summer Champs. He then won the 2/3yo HPB class as well as the HPB Championship and Silver Medal, qualifying him for 2 more NPS finals in August. At the same show Bella won the Mixed M&M 2/3yo class.

In memory of

SEAHOLM DUSK (1986 - 2007)

Sire - Baledon Commanchero       Dam - Seaholm Daybreak

Dusky was the result of mating two of the most prolific ridden ponies of their time. Daybreak was one of the few ponies to beat Commanchero in his prime.

A true ambassador for the breed, Dusky was a really versatile pony, loved by all who came into contact with her. She was sold but bought back again as she was badly missed. She never really asked for anything, yet gave her all to so many young riders.

If only I could have my time with her over again.
