Roseview Stud

A small stud breeding Welsh Section B ponies, including Palomino's, using the best old bloodlines.
Our ponies are bred for temperament, movement and good limbs.

Pride of place in the stud goes to

HORSEGATE PIPIT
HORSEGATE PIPIT
Sire: Pendock Peregrine  Dam: Twyford Arcadia

Pipit at home, August 2011, aged 25.

Although the stud had been established for a number of years it was with the purchase of Horsegate Pipit that our fortunes changed. Since arriving in 1995 she has been awarded many Supreme Championships and has won at Royal Cornwall several times as well as at the Three Counties show. In 2000 she was Supreme Champion at the Native Pony Association (medal show).  Pipit retired from the show ring in 2002. Unfortunately she only bred us two foals, Roseview Showgirl (by Barkway Bolaero) and Roseview Masterpiece, by Eastleigh Amadeus (Mollegaards Spartacus / Knighton Lucy Locket) who we gelded in 2000 and then qualified for HOYS M&M Lead Rein six weeks later.

Seaholm Dusk was acquired in the same year as Pipit.  Dusk was semi-retired in 2003 after many very successful seasons under saddle, including wins at national level.  Dusky had Cushings disease and was rather hairy at times but was still the adorable pony we fell in love with all those years ago.  So much so that, although she was sold in 1997 when she would not breed, she was repurchased a few years later for some young riders to compete on. She played her part in setting them on the winning trail and was 3rd in her only HOYS qualifier at the age of 17.  Her illness became too much for her in March 2007 and she was sadly put to sleep at home.

The stud was virtually disbanded in 2004, due to personal reasons, and most of the ponies were sold to new homes.

New ponies were acquired for the stud in 2007 and these incorporate both new and old bloodlines for us. The first to arrive was the grey mare Millcroft Siesta (Millcroft Royal Lustre x Millcroft Simone) who then had a beautiful colt foal by Soudley Taliesin.  Roseview Raindance has since been sold as a stud stallion with his first foals due in 2010.

We were very fortunate to have been able to acquire Thistledown Pretty Posh, a 3 year old palomino filly from her breeder, Sandy Anderson.  She was a pony he had retained to show himself, being by Eyarth Troy out of Paddock Plush.  She was put in foal to the Royal Welsh champion, Paddock Sahara for 2008, producing a beautiful grey colt, Roseview Panache, who has since been sold to France as a stallion.  Also bought in is the Palomino mare, Kerrells Razzetta, (Rudgate Royal Surprise x Sherwell Roxanne) and Hollybant Queen Isabella.

LATEST NEWS FROM THE STUD

OCTOBER 2011

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Roseview Limited Edition was 2nd HOYS 148cm Show Pony. Well done to Zoe Cutmore, you both looked fabulous in the main arena in the championship.

Eddie is so lucky that he has been owned by such fabulous people in his career and that he is 'one of the family'.

SEPTEMBER 2011

Another season over, rather a quiet one for us having only done 7 shows. Sadly, the loss of our long awaited foal in May put the dampers on my enthusiasm.

Who knows what 2012 will bring. We are now down to just 3 ponies here, with Posh away on loan for the foreseeable future. Should the right home come along for Razzetta she may be sold, leaving us with our future ridden prospect, Phoenix and dear old Pipit.

JULY/AUGUST 2011

Well done to Zoe Cutmore and Roseview Limited Edition - Champion Disneyworld Show Pony (again) at the recent BSPS Champs.

Not a lot happening here. We have done a few shows and had some good results but mainly I have been busy judging.

Roseview Little Love has gone on loan to Barguse Riding Centre as we felt her kind, genuine nature was being wasted in the field. We hope she will go on to teach lots of children how to ride.

JUNE 2011

Roseview Limited Edition qualifies for his 6th HOYS

Many congratulations to the Cutmore family on getting their HOYS ticket with Eddie at the South of England show.

Kerrells Razzetta

We took Kerrells Razzetta to Royal Cornwall show and she was 2nd in the broodmare class. It was sad to see her minus a foal but somethings are just not meant to be.

NPS Area Show 29th May

We took Phoenix to his first pony party today and what a day it was. He won the M&M yearling class, then took the reserve championship. Next he won the Open Small Breeds Home Produced class and again got the reserve championship. This was followed by reserve champion for the NPS Silver Medal. Later in the day he contested the British Isles qualifier, judged by two different judges and got his ticket to the finals as well as the reserve championship for that as well.

MAY 2011

20th May was a very sad day for us at the stud. Kerrells Razzetta went into labour with her long awaited and much wanted foal by Pittybeck Prince Charming. All seemed to be going well but sadly it was not to be. The foal was not presented correctly and was stillborn. He was a beautiful palomino colt.

None of the achievements of ponies on these pages have been gained at the cost of breeding large numbers.

We have never sold a foal at a sale, they stay with us until the right home is found.

Please think before you breed, the minute your mare goes to the stallion, you are responsible for the welfare of that pony!!

2010

I'm pleased to announce that, following my epic trips around the UK over the past 2 summers, I have now been elevated to the judging panel for the National Pony Society for Mixed M&M, Riding Pony Breeding and Hunter Pony Breeding.

Well done to Zoe Cutmore and Roseview Limited Edition on being 10th at HOYS.

Another season over for us. Pretty Posh and Phoenix have had an outstanding year. Pretty Posh won at every agricultural show attended, in addition to picking up a WPCS Silver Medal when taking the championship at Royal Cornwall Show where she was in the final 8 of the Cuddy. She also collected an NPS Silver Medal Rosette. Phoenix has had several wins and championships, as has Razzle, who only had a handful of outings. Our new filly, Hilin Hufen, also had some good wins, as well as a 2nd at Devon County, in very good company.

JESSIE AT PUK

I thought I'd share this photo of Bureside Autumn Mist who we purchased as a rather immature youngster and brought on for a ridden career over a number of years before selling her to Jo Cullen for her daughter Amy. Ridden by Amy Harris at the recent PUK they were reserve champions in the Pollyanna Amateurs. I remember the day they came to try her, it was raining and blowing gale force winds, Amy was rather inexperienced for a large B, yet they bought her due to her kind nature and have never looked back since.

JUNE

Royal Cornwall Show - A WPCS Silver Medal

Wow, what a great show for us. Thistledown Pretty Posh and her foal, Phoenix, both won their classes. Then, to top it all, Pretty Posh went on to win the Welsh B championship. This earned her a WPCS Silver Medal and qualification to the Brightwells National Supreme Welsh Championships, as well as the SWAWPCS and NPA Championships. She also had to compete in the Cuddy qualifier and was kept in for the final 8 of that as well. What a super star she is!!

NPA Cornwall Spring Show

We also took dear Pipit from her retirement (she is now 24yo) and she proved that she still can really move.

She did the Young Handlers class with her new friend, Annabel, and they came a very creditable 3rd.

In memory of

SEAHOLM DUSK (1986 - 2007)

Sire - Baledon Commanchero       Dam - Seaholm Daybreak

Dusky was the result of mating two of the most prolific ridden ponies of their time. Daybreak was one of the few ponies to beat Commanchero in his prime.

A true ambassador for the breed, Dusky was a really versatile pony, loved by all who came into contact with her. She was sold but bought back again as she was badly missed. She never really asked for anything, yet gave her all to so many young riders.

If only I could have my time with her over again.
